There was a Red Cross Association in Besant Women's College which conducted a program based on medicinal herbs and it's uses on 07/09/19. Incharge and secretary of this association is Madam Deekshitha T. S and M.Manila of second year Bsc FND, the helping hands of this association are Mrs Supraja Ma'am and Mrs Veekshitha Ma'am. The exhibition of medicinal herbs was very informative as well as very well arranged. It was successfully organized by the the students of the college. The principal Satish Kumar Shetty gave an enlightening speech about the association and later the students sang a song of the Red Cross Association with cheerfulness which met a laudable end. There were two judges Mrs Jayashree and Mrs Shirley Rani to judge the teams in the exhibition and distributed prizes for the best teams among all.
The main aim of this exhibition was to bring out the medicinal uses of herbs and plants. Herbal medicine is also called botanical medicine. Plant’s seeds, roots, leaves, bark and flowers can be used for medical purposes. Plants have been used for medicinal purposes since long before recorded history. People use herbal medicines to maintain or improve their health. Many people believe that products labelled “natural” are always safe and good for them. This is not necessarily true.
Benefits of the herbal medicines are:
1. Natural healing
2. Strengthens immune system
3. Stabilises hormones and metabolism
4. Cost effective
Some of the medicinal herbs displayed by the exhibition were:
